BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the interim appointment of Lynn Robertson as mayor of Port Allen. Robertson will fill the vacant seat that resulted from the recall of former Mayor Demetric “Deedy” Slaughter.
According to Louisiana law, when a vacancy occurs in the office of a mayor, the City Council or local governing authority has twenty days to appoint a person to fill the vacancy. If the vacancy is not filled within that time, the law requires that the Governor fill the vacancy by interim appointment. The City Council did not fill the vacancy, which made an interim Gubernatorial appointment necessary by law.
