Geaux BIG Baton Rouge Service Day

BATON ROUGE – Geaux BIG Baton Rouge is currently seeking residents and local agencies that need help around their homes and facilities to participate as work sites for the second Geaux BIG Baton Rouge annual service day on March 22, 2014.

More than 2,500 LSU students, staff and faculty are expected to volunteer for Geaux BIG Baton Rouge 2014 in projects that range from working in yards and painting to cleaning homes and visiting with the elderly.

Geaux BIG Baton Rouge will bring volunteers from across the university and community to complete projects requested by residents, schools, and nonprofit agencies. More than 100 work sites are anticipated for the day in areas of the city including Old South Baton Rouge, Mid-City and North Baton Rouge. Residents or nonprofit agencies can request to become a job site at http://geauxbig.lsu.edu, before Jan. 6, 2014.

Geaux BIG Baton Rouge is a one-day event, planned by a student organization of the same name within LSU Campus Life, and seeks to unite LSU students and Baton Rouge residents through service in order to strengthen the university’s relationship with the community. It is modeled after “The Big Event” program, which was established in 1982 at Texas A&M University and garnered more than 19,000 volunteers last year alone.
