National Roll Call for Veteran’s Day

BATON ROUGE – LSU has joined the Remembrance Day National Roll Call project honoring American service men and women by hosting simultaneous ceremonies across the nation.

On Veteran’s Day – Monday, Nov. 11 – campus and community volunteers at 85 college and universities in 33 states across the nation will read the names of fallen.  Each campus has organized its own ceremony to recognize those who have served, are serving and those who died in service to the nation.

All participating campuses will observe a simultaneous nationwide minute of silence at 11 a.m. Pacific Standard Time, or 1 p.m. local time in Baton Rouge.

“We want to rally campus communities across the nation to send a message to the troops currently serving – that we, as a national body of students, have not forgotten their sacrifices, or those of their fallen brethren,” said Brett Morris, a retired Army officer and the National Roll Call coordinator.

LSU’s National Roll Call Event will be held from 1-2 p.m. at the War Memorial on the LSU Parade Grounds. The simultaneous nationwide minute of silence will begin at 1 p.m. and attendees are encouraged to arrive by 12:55 at the latest. Following the minute of silence,  the names of the service members from Louisiana who lost their lives in Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn will be read.
