BATON ROUGE – MPADegree.org, a website dedicated to advocates for public administration worldwide, recently ranked the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business No. 17 in the nation among social media friendly public administration schools.
According to its website, MPADegree.org “evaluated almost 200 public administration schools to determine which ones are doing the best job of building their social media presence.” Schools were given a score based on the level of activity in each of their social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr, Google Plus and Pinterest. The E. J. Ourso college earned an overall score of 65.8 and was the third-highest ranked SEC school on the list. Texas A&M was ranked No. 11 (72.6 points), and Auburn University was No. 13 (70 points).
As of July 19, the E. J. Ourso College Facebook page has 1,699 “Likes,” and its Twitter has 2,087 followers. Although those numbers are distant from Harvard University’s tallies of 29,733 and 26,333, respectively, No. 2 ranked University of Southern California has 2,479 “Likes” on its Facebook page and fewer Twitter followers than the E. J. Ourso College at 2,037.
While MPADegree.org’s ranking was based off of the college’s social media statistics, LSU Public Administration Institute Director Jim Richardson stated that PAI is continuing to develop social media pages centered more specifically on PAI and the MPA program.
“Social media is the game in terms of introducing yourself to potential students and keeping up with your alums around the country,” Richardson said. “We are pleased with this ranking, but are working very hard to do even better. Our goal is to make the LSU MPA a national brand and, to accomplish that, we have to work through social media.”
