Big Buddy Summer Camp

BATON ROUGE – The LSU College of Human Sciences & Education’s School of Kinesiology has partnered with the Big Buddy Program’s local summer camp to provide both LSU and Big Buddy participants with valuable interaction and learning experiences. Twenty-four students enrolled in KIN2577-Health and Physical Education for the Elementary School will partner with 22 Big Buddy children ranging from Pre-K to fourth grade, to participate in a series of P.E. classes taught by Emily Beasley.

Beasley, who is responsible for the partnership, said the course is beneficial to LSU students by providing them with valuable field experience hours, which are required of all physical education majors. This partnership is a unique opportunity for the enrolled students because these field experience hours are included in the curriculum of the course.

At the end of the course, students will complete a lab based on their observations and experiences during the course. LSU students enrolled in the course can also apply the hours they’ve earned in this course to other classes.

The P.E. classes are structured to be inclusive and focus on positive team and technique building.

The LSU School of Kinesiology advances the understanding of physical activity, sport, and health to optimize the quality of life for diverse populations through excellence in teaching, learning, discovery, and engagement. Visit the School of Kinesiology athttp://lsu.edu/kinesiology.
