EBR Students Win Awards at State Science Fair

Several EBR Schools students had their share of wins at the recent Louisiana State Science and Engineering Fair, which took place at the Louisiana State University. More than 500 students from throughout the state presented projects at the event and competed for awards and scholarships.

Competing students from the School System at the state fair still did quite well.  Some of the top performers included:
SENIOR DIVISION — BATON ROUGE MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL
• 1st Place, Behavioral and Social Sciences – Celeste H. Runnels for “The Effect of Auditory Interference on Stroop Test Performance” (1st Place at the Region VII Fair)
• 2nd Place, Biochemistry – Stefan D’Sa for “Relationship between Mississippi River Water Levels and Dissolved Organic Matter – Absorbance / Fluorescence Properties” (1st Place at the Region VII Fair)
• 1st Place, Engineering: Electrical and Mechanical – Madeline M. Juneau for “Brace Yourself to Stand Tall” (1st Place at the Region VII Fair)
• 1st Place, Mathematical Sciences – David C. Luo for “Mysteries behind the Euclidean Algorithm” (1st Place at the Region VII Fair)
• 2nd Place, Mathematical Sciences – Anmol R. Hingorani for “Segmented Regression: Modeling an Object under the Effect of Drag Force”
• American Psychological Association Award – Runnels
• Louisiana Science Teachers Association Award – Runnels (1st Place)
• Mu Alpha Theta Award – Luo
• National Society of Professional Engineers Award – Juneau (Same award at the Region VII Fair)

JUNIOR DIVISION – GLASGOW MIDDLE SCHOOL
• 1st Place, Cellular and Molecular Biology – Anusha Zaman for “Betel Leaf and Tobacco Effects on Human Broncho-Epithelial (BEAS-2B) Cells” (1st Place at the Region VII Fair)
• 1st Place, Computer Science – Chi L. Cao for “Home for Hubs” (1st Place at the Region VII Fair)
• 2nd Place, Computer Science – William S. Heitman for “What Elements of a Video Game Affect Blind Gamers the Most?”
• 1st Place, Mathematical Sciences – Marie Neubrander for “Random Walks and Fractal Images”
• 1st Place, Medicine and Health Sciences – Anugrah Jeyaseelan for “Antibiotics: Natural vs. Pharmaceutical” (1st Place at the Region VII Fair)
• Top School – Glasgow Middle
• Overall 1st Place, Medicine and Health Sciences – Jeyaseelan
• Iota Sigma Pi Award – Zaman

JUNIOR DIVISION – WESTDALE MIDDLE SCHOOL
• 2nd Place, Behavioral and Social Sciences – Jolie Gautreau for “You Are What You Eat” (1st Place at the Region VII Fair)
