65 Year Old Overcorrected in Fatal Crash

Fatal crash in Bienville Parish

On December 18, 2012, shortly before 6:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G investigated a one vehicle crash on LA Highway 147, just south of LA Highway 155, in Bienville Parish that claimed the life of a Quitman man.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by 65-year-old Stanley Jones III, of Quitman was traveling north on LA Highway 147 when he swerved abruptly to the right, overcorrected, and lost control of his vehicle. After losing control, the vehicle exited the roadway and collided with a tree.

Jones was not wearing his seatbelt during the crash and his injuries were fatal. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bienville Parish Coroner

Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

The majority of fatal and serious injury crashes involve occupants who are not wearing seatbelts. Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of being properly restrained at all times in every seating position in the vehicle. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.
